This AI Policy describes how First For News approaches the use of artificial intelligence tools in its editorial operations, and the standards the publication applies to AI-generated content.
Human Editorial Judgment
The publication is produced by human editors and reporters. Every piece published on the site reflects human editorial judgment about what to cover, how to report it, and how to present the results. Artificial intelligence tools are treated as assistive utilities in that process, not as substitutes for reporting or editorial decision-making.
Where AI Tools May Be Used
The newsroom may make use of AI tools for supporting tasks such as transcription of audio and video source material, translation of foreign-language material, initial research and background gathering, spelling and grammar checking, and similar utility functions. In every case, the output of such tools is reviewed by a human editor or reporter before it informs published work.
Where AI Tools Are Not Used
The publication does not publish articles produced by generative AI tools without substantive human reporting, editing, and verification. Fabricated quotations, invented sources, and unverified factual claims are not acceptable in published work, regardless of whether they originate from an AI tool or from any other source.
Disclosure of AI Use
Where AI tools have played a material role in the production of a published piece (for example, where AI-generated imagery accompanies an article), that role is disclosed within the piece so that readers understand what they are seeing.
Contributor Submissions
Contributors submitting work to the publication are expected to disclose any material use of AI tools in the drafting of their submissions. Submissions consisting primarily of AI-generated content, without substantive original reporting or expertise, are declined under the standards described on the Write for Us page.
Content Ingestion by Third-Party AI Systems
Content published on the Site may be indexed by third-party search engines, aggregators, and AI systems that ingest publicly available web content. Such indexing and ingestion is governed by the policies of the third parties in question and is outside the direct control of the publication.
Changes to This Policy
This AI Policy will be updated as the technology and industry practice around AI continue to evolve. When we make changes, we will revise the "Last Updated" date at the top of this Policy.
